Gibraltar Barbary Macaque 50p Coin - 2015 Cupro Nickel
 
A popular belief holds that as long as the Gibraltar Barbary macaques exist in Gibraltar, the territory will remain British. Another story links Gibraltar to Africa by a subterranean passage which begins at Lower St. Michael's Cave in Gibraltar, passes under the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Gibraltar Barbary macaques entered The Rock from Morocco this way. A 50p coin featuring the Barbary Macaque was issued between 2014 and 2016.
